The Legislative Committee of the Florida Sunshine Chapter focuses on issues regarding access to health care, provider reimbursement, the uninsured, and other legislative and regulatory issues which impact health care providers and patients. The committee addresses issues at the local, state, and federal levels and is used as a means to informing our elected representatives of provider concerns related to proposed legislation.
Those interested in participating in this committee should contact Kathy Reep at: email@example.com or telphone number: 407-841-6230.
If you have an issue that should be called to the attention of the committee, please forward a brief summary of the issue, with related impact, to Kathy. Note in the message that the issue is intended for the AAHAM Legislative Committee.
AAHAM Support of Florida Healthcare Legislative Visits and AHCA Hearings
Dear AAHAM Florida Sunshine Chapter Member,
AAHAM Florida Sunshine Chapter passed a resolution to help fund provider trips to state hearings and legislative meetings. AAHAM Florida Sunshine Chapter Board of Directors has approved a budget of $2500 per year to help with travel expenses for AAHAM members who need assistance to travel on state legislative visits and AHCA Florida hearings.
AAHAM PFS and Managed Care RCM members are often needed to testify and meet with legislative members or AHCA on critical items. Also Caregivers, patients, and families should be speaking out against the healthcare cuts and access problems; our PFS teams have relationships with our patients. They both experience dealing with payer denials and untimely or reduced payments, as well as authorization delays. Our legislature and state agencies need to hear these experiences. See the attached list for current topics before these entities.
AAHAM Members who are engaged in legislative visits or hearings that are experiencing provider budget cuts may apply for trip assistance. To apply provide your name, contact info, position in your organization, and information about your travel plans, anticipated costs, and specific legislative visit/hearing to firstname.lastname@example.org She will share the request with the AAHAM Legislative committee and officers. Once approved we will reimburse your travel expenses with proof of expenses submitted. The approval turnaround time should be within a day or so.
Also report please report your legislative conference calls or visits for our Chapter Excellence yearly report.
Any questions concerning this matter should be directed to Marty Lassiter at 727-281-9182.
The AAHAM Florida Sunshine Chapter may consider reduce funding should budget constraints require a change.
AAHAM NATIONAL CONGRESSIONAL LEGISLATIVE DAY SUPPORT
Every year The AAHAM National Government Relations Committee works with the AAHAM National Officers to select legislative lobbying changes that will improve the healthcare outcomes for our patients and our organizations. One day each year AAHAM members conduct grassroots lobbying meeting on these concerns. We meet to prepare all attendees for visits with your congressmen.
AAHAM just completed its thirteenth year of traveling to Washington in the spring to visit with our Congressional offices and discuss support of our selected topic(s).
Here is the current year Medicare Reform Bill(s) AAHAM is supporting. (PDF) This is a bi-partisan bill that is gaining wide support in Congress. As an AAHAM member if you believe these bills are important we would appreciate your support as well.
